Welcome To Smooth Jazz Spot (SmoothJazzSpot.com) – An Introduction To The Largest Smooth Jazz Group On Facebook

September 19, 2010 at 3:35 pm 30 comments

Welcome to the Smooth Jazz Spot blog page. Due to Facebook’s group feature limitations, this blog has been created to keep certain items easy to find, well organized, and editable. We wish this blog could be located right in our group, but Facebook does not offer the ability to blog. Facebook does offer a forum for discussions, but they can not be edited, and therefore is not compatible with what we’re creating on this page.

We suggest that you refer to this blog as often as desired, as it acts as a reference guide to Smooth Jazz Spot, as well as to various Smooth Jazz resources that may be of interest.

Check out our wall, enjoy our fabulous pictures and videos, and please participate. Maybe even more importantly, meet and make friends with our thousands of incredible members found on the left side of our home page.

Please take these six action steps as soon as possible:

1. CLICK HERE to join our Email Newsletter & Announcement List. We will not sell or share your email address, and you may opt-out at any time.

2. CLICK HERE to follow Smooth Jazz Spot on Twitter.

3. CLICK HERE to join the Smooth Jazz Spot Sub-Group for your State/Province. We have created Smooth Jazz Spot Location Sub-Groups for all States, Washington, DC, Puerto Rico and Canada, so that Smooth Jazz Spot members can find other members that live close to them. This way, if they desire, they can become friends, go to concerts together, etc… We need Administrators for many of our Sub-Groups. If you’d like to possibly get involved, and receive more information, please contact our Smooth Jazz Spot Administrator, Dorine Wright. If you live in the USA and Canada, and have not yet joined sub-groups of interest, please do so today, and invite all of your Smooth Jazz buddies to join them as well.

4.
Smooth Jazz Spot is here to help promote all of our artist members. Please post your concerts, your web site URLs, information on your CD releases, and any news you wish to share on the Smooth Jazz Spot network.

CLICK HERE to go to learn about the different ways that we try to help you, including our contests, where artists offer one or more autographed CDs, concert tickets, or anything else that you’d like to share. Our members love these contests, and it helps to promote you. It’s a Win-Win for everyone.

Smooth Jazz Spot appreciates you, and we’re here to try help you in any way that we can. Please invite every Smooth Jazz Artist that you know to join our Artist Sub-Group.

5. CLICK HERE
to peruse and purchase Smooth Jazz Spot branded merchandise from our online store. All profits will be used to run Smooth Jazz Spot, so we’d appreciate it if you support us. In addition, you may CLICK HERE to see two sets of all eight Smooth Jazz Spot logo color combinations. One set has small type at the bottom of the logo, and one set does not. For smaller logos, the small text is illegible, so in that case, it’s best not to have it. This will allow Smooth Jazz Spot members being able to buy and/or create Smooth Jazz Spot merchandise, business cards, etc… from any source they that desire, aside from our online store. We want you to have total flexibility to enjoy any type of Smooth Jazz Spot branded merchandise that you so desire. If you need a high resolution graphic, here’s what you do. CLICK HERE, then click LOGO.zip to open the Zip file. Then save it to your computer. Go into your computer, find what you saved, click the Zip file to open it. Then click on the folder that says final. You’ll find all 8 logos in png, eps, and ai formats. If you need help, just let me know.

6. CLICK HERE to see a list of our awesome contest giveaways.

Note: There has been an issue raised about some videos posted on Smooth Jazz Spot, Facebook in general, and many other sites that may be in violation of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. This is a wide spread industry problem (not a specific Smooth Jazz Spot issue), there are a lot of grey areas in the law, and this has been going on for years. Smooth Jazz Spot wishes to be sensitive to Smooth Jazz artists and record companies, but we also wish to be sensitive to our administration, and to all of our members. If any artist or record company finds a video of their music on Smooth Jazz Spot, that they wish to have removed due to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, please contact Dorine Wright or Ken Levinson, and we will be happy to remove it.

We are not asking any member to remove any videos that they’ve posted to Smooth Jazz Spot. Dorine and I will handle this, if a specific artist or record company ever requests it.

From what I’ve been told, live artist concert videos are the least possible problematic videos to post. Those are the videos that are the most interesting in my opinion, so those are the ones that I personally post whenever possible. The ones I’ve been told that can be the most problematic are those strictly with album covers, or album covers and still pictures. Some people are more concerned about this issue than others are. A few highly respected managers have told me that they don’t bother to take any action whatsoever, unless unauthorized videos are offered for resale, which is never done on Smooth Jazz Spot. As I said, there’s lots of grey areas.

Therefore, I’m giving members no further directives, other than to educate yourself based on what I’ve said in the last paragraph, and when posting videos, please choose those videos which are deemed to be less problematic.

Visiting elderly Mom in Tampa two weeks ago I discovered smoothjazztampabay.com and have been addicted ever since, now listing in Pennsylvania over my Ipod Touch on a Bose SoundDock. No commercials – superb audio quality – spoke with founder and this is a part-time hobby
